Electric vehicles

On December 23, 2015, Quebec’s minister of transport Robert Poëti announced that electric vehicles would benefit from free access to the toll bridges on highways 25 and 30 and to the paid ferry services operated by Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ). These incentives, effective as of January 1, 2016, represent concrete steps to encourage the use of electric vehicles, as per the 2015–2020 Transportation Electrification Action Plan.

This free access was implemented on the Sorel-Tracy, Quebec City, Matane and Rivière-du-Loup ferry routes on January 1, 2016. Electric vehicle owners are asked to present their vehicle registration certificate (see below).

The seasonal ferry routes to L’Île-Verte and Entry Island will implement free access to these types of vehicles at the beginning of their respective operating seasons in the spring of 2016.

How to benefit from this free access

To be eligible for these privileges, electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles must bear a Québec licence plate with green lettering issued by Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) and present their vehicle registration certificate.

The following paid ferry services will provide free access to electric vehicles:

This project is intended as a practical incentive for electric vehicle use, directly in line with the 2015–2020 Transportation Electrification Action Plan. This initiative goes hand in hand with STQ’s drive toward sustainable development.
